La Vida Nuevo
(A New Life)
Taylan Polat was born in Divirigi, Turkey and moved to Istanbul at the age of 5. In 2001 he moved to Cordoba, Spain, to study with reputed flamenco artists such as Paco Serrano, Manolo Franco and Niño de Pura. Now he is the only Turkish with a flamenco guitar advanced degree.
He started performing in Turkey at 16. With the passing years, Taylan has become a self-taught composer and created his own style, what he likes to call “Flamenturco”, through a mixture of flamenco and traditional Turkish songs.
So far, Idas y vueltas has been his most important original creation, in which he worked together with the very much acclaimed guitar player Eduardo Trassierra, winner of top guitar awards in the SevilleBienal and Cordoba National flamenco contests.
Taylan has made several appearances on Spanish and Turkish TV and radio programs, and has performed in international festivals such as Cosmopoética, Enraizados en el viento, Noche Blanca del Flamenco de Cordoba and Soujournposse Festival “East meets West” in London.
